London & Surrey Wedding Photographer
Led by Ryo Ishikawa, Indigo Images specialise in telling the story of your day with beautiful, timeless images.
My mission is to capture the originality, emotion and narrative of the special day with a documentary approach. I pride myself on our fresh, personal and intimate style rather than set-up or 'posed' approaches to wedding photography. Capturing the key moments of the day in an unobtrusive and stylish way. Looking for the moments that are often looked over in wedding photography. Striving to provide all the intimacy, humour, friendship and personality of the couple, the guests and the day.
Above all, honesty and authenticity are the most important core values of my work.
I will arrive before the wedding ceremony to capture the bride and groom's preparations. I shoot throughout the day, from start to finish, at all the key moments and well on into the evening activities so no moment is missed.
Capturing your day with beautiful, natural and unobtrusive photography, telling the story as it happens.
Hi, my name is Ryo and I'm the Principal Photographer and Owner of Indigo Images.
I began my photography journey in my teenage years with my uncle's old Nikon traditional film camera from the 60's. Manually photographing, developing and printing my images in the darkroom. I became a passionate teller of stories through imagery, photographing moments that meant something, for people that really care.
After graduating with a BA(Hons) Photography degree from Nottingham Trent University, I trained and worked as an advertising and fashion photographer in London and around Europe where I gained a deep understanding of communication through imagery and the use of light on people and their surroundings. Combining this with my love of natural, documentary-based imagery led me towards pursuing wedding photography in my own unique way.
Since photographing my first wedding in 2012 and absolutely falling in love with it, I decided to blend all my experience from studio and editorial work while exploring the creative process of wedding photography. With an emphasis for capturing those fleeting moments often missed by other photographers and a keen eye for details and emotion, I started my own brand which eventually became Indigo Images.
I love what I do and look forward to the uniqueness each wedding has to offer. It’s an absolute joy for me to photograph weddings! I would be honoured to tell your story and capture your once in a lifetime moments.
I am also a part of John Nassari's photography team as his No.1 Photographer. His right hand man if you will! I have photographed some of the biggest, absolutely amazing but also demanding and challenging super-luxury weddings at the most spectacular locations in the UK and around the world as a part of his team. Some of them includes a wedding broadcast on the final episode of Channel 4's A Very British Country House at Cliveden House and an another wedding featured in Hello! Magazine. I also on occasion lead the photography team on high end weddings on behalf of the John Nassari brand at magnificent venues such as Blenheim Palace and The Wilderness Reserve.
How would you describe your wedding photography style and what makes you unique?
Indigo Images is about telling a photographic story of your day in the most natural way possible by providing a narrative driven, documentary or reportage style of photography. Producing interesting, and emotive images of a wedding day while capturing those natural fleeting moments. Weddings are full of love, excitement, humour, anxiety, and joy. An abundance of emotion that is a delight to witness and capture as a photographer.
I try and blend into the background and be almost invisible so we are not influencing your day. Working around you while capturing all the moments and interaction that happen. Importantly I am thoughtful, considerate and sensitive to the monumental occasion and everyone involved.
I believe that taking a step back from directing too much is the key to success. In contrast, we strive for the images to reflect the atmosphere of the day. We watch, observe, capture. Photographing in a relaxed, non-invasive and passionate way with a unique style and approach.
Being a creative documentary photographer is more than just capturing what is happening. It is about translating something completely intangible into a photographic story. Taking a step back and allowing character and individuality to thrive is important. The only time you’ll see us directing is during the essential family group shots and the couples shoots. Where we will construct the narrative, placing the couple in natural scenarios to create images for and about the couple. This balance requires finesse, compassion, creativity and above all kindness and consideration.
Proud to be Inclusive 🏳️🌈
At Indigo Images we believe that every love matters. We love all couples equally and welcome the LGBTQ+ community in the celebration of your love. We shoot all kinds of weddings, and firmly believe that it is so important to be all inclusive and equality minded when it comes to weddings and celebrations. Every couple and every person is different and we want to give your day a unique set of images that reflects you as an individual or couple. We treat each person we work with as an individuals and are very much focussed on getting you to be yourselves in front of the camera.
It never matters who you are or how you identify. Your wedding or any celebration that you want to do is just as important as any other.
We are proud to have a stated commitment to equality and working with diverse or same sex couples, along with gender neutral language across all of my communications.
If you’re looking for a LGBTQ+ friendly wedding photographer do get in touch, I’d love to hear all about your plans.
Where are you based and do you travel?
We are based in Surrey just outside of London, UK and yes we love to travel! Most destinations in about 1-2 hours from London I will travel to for free. If you want me to photograph your story further afield it will require a travel fee depending on where it takes place. But no worries, I always try to find the most cost-effective way to get to your wedding.
When will we get our photos?
Your will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within maximum 6 weeks but usually between 3-4 weeks from your wedding day. It really depends on the season we photograph your story.
How will we receive our images?
You will get a personal and private gallery link, from where you can browse your full wedding and download all the photos as well as share them, choose your favourites, and also order prints! All the photos are provided in full quality with no watermarks.
How many pictures will we receive?
For a 10 hours coverage wedding, you will receive between 800 to 1000 fully edited images. I always choose quality rather than quantity.
Do you edit the images?
Yes I do both tonal and colour editing to make the pictures ‘pop’. I am careful not to carry out extensive face / bodywork retouching in order to retain the natural feel.
How do we secure your services for the day?
I take bookings with a 30% deposit and provide a written contract, the terms of which we all understand and agree to.
Is a second photographer advisable?
I am confident in covering a wedding up to 120 people myself. Although getting that second angle and vision of the day can be really great. Also perfect for covering the second prep location.
Do you have insurance?
Yes I am fully insured for both public liability and indemnity, and will be able to provide proof of insurance on request.
Do you supply wedding albums?
I believe I offer the best albums that are handmade in the UK. Please check out our albums page. We really don’t print images as much as we should. Our albums are leather bound and printed on archival paper that will hold the memories for a lifetime and even be handed down to the next generation.
Do you supply prints?
Yes! Special images should be printed and displayed. Every gallery comes with its own dedicated print store where you can select your image, and order prints directly to your door! Example Print Store:
How long is your full day coverage?
I work from morning preparation all the way through the cake cutting, first dance and into the evening celebrations. This is usually about ten hours depending on your needs.
What if we want more coverage over the allocated time?
No problem! I will make an individual customised quote just for you to cover all your needs.
What if your camera breaks on the day?
I carry at least one reserve for every piece of equipment to cater for any such eventuality. It's never happened yet but you never know.
How safe are my pictures from file loss and damage?
As soon as I return home, my memory cards are backed up locally to my private server and externally using a cloud backup system. The external location back up protects from and theft, loss, damage and acts of God.
Please download and back up your own copy of your wedding images after delivery! I cannot guarantee indefinite storage of your wedding photographs.
What equipment do you use?
All my equipment is tailored for wedding photography. Since 2017 I have used the Sony Alpha 9 series bodies and lenses from Sony and Carl Zeiss.
I need recommendation for suppliers, can you help?
Of course. with over 9 years experience in the industry I have worked with the best of the best! I will gladly point you in the direction of every supplier that I can personally recommend.
“Ryo & Indigo Images made an absolutely amazing job of our wedding photography.
Ryo and his team were simply fabulous to get on with, efficient and non-obtrusive, a sheer delight to work with.
The quality of the photographs were of a level that is difficult to beat, and made our wedding at the Savoy look like the celebrity event of the year.
The only words looking at our wedding photos had were: 'wow!'
Don't miss out on Ryo as your wedding photographer - it will be one of your best decisions!”
